Design Picks: Instagram Faves!

As social media takes up more and more of our idle-time, it makes the consumption of style and design more ubiquitous. But, you don’t have to just follow the same old boring brands and tastemakers. For my IG feed, I try to stick with trusted, curated, and editorial points of view. With many aspects of social media, there is a novelty to untrained/non-professional editorial points of view. But, I think over-dependence on these amateurs devalues our industry as a whole. We need to support those creatives who actually are the ones making the trends and doing the hard work of design. From an industry point of view, Instagram is at the forefront of the social media/branding universe. The format and the mindless ease of browsing make Instagram ideal for brand awareness and outreach. Other platforms like Snapchat seem to be lacking in the interaction and quantifiable features that IG has mastered. Instagram’s parent company, Facebook is still an important part of a brand’s mix, but has seen it’s influence wain as mobile platforms grow their user base. With that in mind, here are my personal design faves on IG… Kelly Wearstler
